A trunnion ball valve, taken apart to show what we make

A 12-inch Class 600 trunnion-mounted ball valve with a three-piece bolted body and a gear operator, taken apart the way a fitter does it: the end flange nuts spin off and the line flanges pull away, then the gear operator, its bracket, the gland flange and stem, and the trunnion plate come off in turn, and last the two end closures slide off the centre body with their seats. The bolting we make is in colour. Press Solid view for a steel model, or Cutaway to see the ball, seats, stem and trunnion inside.

What's highlighted, and where it goes

    Valve body

    Body studs & nuts

Clamp each end closure to the centre body over the body gasket: sixteen studs a side, threaded into the body, with a heavy hex nut on each. The valve's main pressure-containing bolting.

    Trunnion plate studs & nuts

Hold the trunnion plate under the body. Its pin carries the ball, so line pressure goes into the body, not the seats.

    Gland flange cap screws

Bolt the stem housing to the top of the body, holding the stem and its seals in.

    Gear operator

    Bracket studs & nuts

Hold the operator bracket down on the valve's top mounting pad.

    Gear operator studs & nuts

Fix the gear operator's ISO 5211 flange to the top of the bracket: eight studs on the bolt circle, nutted under the bracket plate.

    Stem adaptor & key

A machined coupling that carries the operator's torque into the valve stem.

    Line

    End flange studs & nuts

Bolt the valve into the pipeline: twenty 1-1/4 in. studs per end flange on a 19-1/4 in. bolt circle (ASME B16.5 Class 600, NPS 12), each with two heavy hex nuts.

A generic 12 in. Class 600 valve, not any maker's design. The end flanges, end studs and face-to-face length follow ASME B16.5, ASME B16.10 and API 6D, and the gear operator mounting is drawn on an ISO 5211 pattern; the ball, seats, body, closures, stem, trunnion, bracket and operator shapes are illustrative, and the body, trunnion plate, gland flange and bracket bolt counts and sizes are typical. Your drawings govern. We manufacture to your drawings and specifications.

Drawn to ASME B16.5 (Class 600 flanges and studs), ASME B16.10 and API 6D (face-to-face length and full bore) and ISO 5211 (gear operator mounting pattern).
