Structural bolts, nuts and hardened washers for girder splices and bracing, bearing anchor bolts, expansion joint anchors and railing post anchor bolts, made in Houston to your drawings and specifications.
The abutment end of a continuous steel plate-girder highway bridge: the 80 ft end span, the first pier and 32 ft of the next span, 112 ft of bridge in all, on four 54-inch girders at 8 ft 6 in. centres under a 32 ft deck. It comes apart in the reverse of the way it was built: the railing and the expansion joint plates unbolt, the deck lifts off, the cross frames and lateral bracing come out, the nuts spin off the field splices and their plates come away, and the girders lift off their bearings and anchor rods. The view moves in on the first field splice while the steel is unbolted. The bolting we make is in colour. Press Solid view for a steel and concrete model.
7/8 in. ASTM F3125 structural bolts (Grade A325, or A490 where the design calls for it; Type 3 for weathering steel) with A563 DH heavy hex nuts and F436 washers, through an outside plate and two inside plates on each flange. Here 32 in the bottom flange and 24 in the top at each splice, in 15/16 in. holes at 3 in. pitch.
The same bolting through a splice plate on each face of the web: two rows of sixteen each side of the joint, 64 per splice.
Bolt the X-frames between the girders to the connection plates on the webs, three at each corner, twelve per frame.
Bolt the bottom lateral bracing gussets under the bottom flanges and the tee diagonals to the gussets.
ASTM F1554 anchor rods, 1-1/2 in. here, two per bearing, set in the abutment and pier seats and up through the sole plate under each girder, with a plate washer and heavy hex nut; slotted holes at the expansion end.
Hold the finger plates down on the abutment backwall and on the end of the deck slab.
Four through the base plate of each railing post and the deck slab to an anchor plate below, with a nut above and below.

Request a quote832-446-3442A generic four-girder bridge, not any agency's or fabricator's design, drawn at full size; 112 ft of it is shown. The structural bolt, nut and washer sizes, hole sizes, bolt lengths, minimum spacing and edge distances follow ASME B18.2.6, ASTM F3125, A563 and F436, the RCSC Specification and AASHTO LRFD, and the railing posts, rails, cross-frame angles and bracing tees are AISC shapes. The plate sizes, the number of bolts in each splice, the cross-frame and bracing layout, the bearings and their anchor rods, the railing, and the finger joint and its anchor bolts are typical: the design sets them. Shear studs on the top flanges are welded and drawn in line only. Your drawings govern. We manufacture to your drawings and specifications.
Drawn to the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and the RCSC Specification for Structural Joints Using High-Strength Bolts (hole sizes, bolt spacing, edge distances and bolt lengths), ASME B18.2.6 (heavy hex structural bolts and nuts), ASTM F3125, A563, F436 and F1554 (bolts, nuts, washers and anchor rods) and the AISC Steel Construction Manual (rolled shapes and anchor rod holes).
