Tie rods threaded both ends, their nuts, hardened washers and spring guide sleeves, manifold flange studs, bus bar bolts, foot bolts and anchor bolts, made in Houston to your drawings and specifications.
A pressurised alkaline water electrolyzer stack of the filter-press type, with 1.6 m cells clamped between two end plates by sixteen tie rods. 200 cells are drawn; real stacks are built with anything from a few dozen cells to two hundred or more. It comes apart the way a fitter strips it: the manifold flange nuts spin off and the lye and gas spools pull clear, the bus bars unbolt, the tie rod nuts spin off and the disc spring stacks slide away, the tie rods are drawn out, and the sliding end plate moves back so the cell frames, gaskets and diaphragms come apart. The bolting we make is in colour. Press Solid view for a steel model, or Cutaway to see the manifold ducts, the cell pack and a tie rod with its spring stack in section.
Long rods, threaded at both ends, that run outside the cell frames from end plate to end plate and hold the pack of cells and gaskets in compression.
Heavy hex nuts on both ends of every rod. The spring-end nuts are run down in sequence to close the pack and backed off to open it.
Flat, through-hardened washers each side of every disc spring stack and under the far-end nuts, so springs and nuts bear on a hard, square face.
Machined sleeves over the rod inside each disc spring stack, keeping the springs central and off the thread. The disc springs themselves are bought-in parts.
Bolt the lye and gas piping to the four nozzles on the fixed end plate: eight 3/4 in. studs per joint on a 7.88 in. bolt circle (ASME B16.5 Class 300, NPS 4), each with two heavy hex nuts.
Clamp the copper bus bars to the lugs on the end plates, which carry the direct current into and out of the stack.
Bolt the end plate feet to the skid through the insulating pads; one end is fixed and the other is free to slide as the pack warms and cools.
Hold the skid down to the foundation, two at each base plate.
Shouldered eye bolts in the end plate rims for slinging the stack.

The NPS 4 Class 300 nozzle flanges, their drilling and their studs follow ASME B16.5; the 1.6 m cell diameter is a published figure for this type of stack. Everything else is illustrative typical proportions: the end plates, the sixteen 2-1/2 in. tie rods and their length, the disc spring stacks, guide sleeves, washers and insulating bushes, the bus bar lugs, the feet, skid and anchor bolts, and every count and size not covered by ASME B16.5 is typical. Materials are given as typical only. 200 cells are drawn as blocks, with three shown loose; cell frames, gaskets, diaphragms, electrodes and disc springs are not ours. Tie rod tightening figures come from the stack builder's own procedure. Your drawings govern. We manufacture to your drawings and specifications.
The nozzle flanges, their drilling and their studs are drawn to ASME B16.5 Class 300, NPS 4, with ASME B36.10 pipe; the stack follows the general arrangement of pressurised filter-press alkaline electrolyzers described in published patents and papers, with a cell diameter of 1.6 m.
