Forged-head liner bolts with nuts and cup washers, head and grate bolts, flange bolts, girth gear bolting, bearing bolts and anchor bolts, made in Houston to your drawings and specifications.
A 12 ft × 16 ft (3.66 m × 4.88 m) grate-discharge ball mill with a girth gear and pinion drive, taken apart as at a reline and then an overhaul. First the reline: the liner bolt nuts, cup washers and seals spin off outside the shell, the bolts are knocked in, the feed chute is rolled back and the liners come out through the feed trunnion, row by row. Then the gear guard and the top half of the girth gear lift off, the bearing caps come up, the mill is lifted off its trunnion bearings, and the shell cans and heads are unbolted at their flanges, down to the sole plates and anchor bolts. The bolting we make is in colour. Press Solid view for a steel model, or Cutaway to see the shell, the liners and lifters and the liner bolts through them in section.
Forged oval-head bolts seated in the liner lifters and passing out through the drilled shell: 1-1/2 in. shown, sixteen to a row on 12 in. centres, twenty-four rows. A wear consumable, replaced with the liners at every reline.
Outside the shell on every liner bolt: a rubber sealing ring, a cup washer that squeezes it into the bolt hole, and a nut.
The same forged-head bolts through the conical heads, holding the feed head liners and, at the discharge end, the grates and pulp lifters.
A ring of bolts, washers and nuts joining the two rolled shell cans at their flanges.
A full ring of bolts at each end joining the cast heads, which carry the trunnions, to the shell flanges.
Studs with a nut each end clamping the two halves of the girth gear together at each split.
Bolt the gear's flange to the shell flange at the discharge end. Fitted bolts locate the gear and carry the drive torque.
Cap bolts and hold-down bolts on the pinion shaft's two pillow block bearings.
Studs and heavy nuts holding each bearing cap over its trunnion, and bolts fixing each pedestal to its sole plate.
Cast into the concrete piers, holding the trunnion bearing and pinion sole plates down. Typically ASTM F1554.

The liner bolt diameter, the 12 in. bolt hole spacing, the number of liner rows and head liner sectors, and the bolt, seal, cup washer and nut make-up follow published liner design practice and liner bolt makers' data; the shell, flanges, heads, trunnions, girth gear, pinion, bearings, guard and feed chute are illustrative typical proportions, and the other bolt counts and sizes are typical. Liners really leave through the feed trunnion one at a time; here each row is shown coming out whole. Designs vary (rubber or composite liners, tee-head or square-head bolts, gearless drives) and your drawings govern. We manufacture to your drawings and specifications.
Drawn as a typical 12 ft × 16 ft ball mill from published liner design practice, liner bolt makers' data and mill installation practice, with bolting to ISO 898-1 property classes, SAE J429, ASTM A193 / A194, ASTM F436 hardened washers and ASTM F1554 anchor rods.
