Tightening and locking bolts with their nuts, bearing boxes and lock washers, port studs, bar bolts and foundation bolts, made in Houston to your drawings and specifications.
A gasketed plate-and-frame heat exchanger with 6-inch Class 150 studded ports and a 33-inch pack of 182 plates, opened the way a fitter does it: the locking bolt nuts spin off and those bolts lift out of their slots, the four tightening bolts are backed off in diagonal pairs and lifted out, the pressure plate rolls back along the carrying bar and the plates slide apart. Then the piping comes off the studded ports and the frame bolting comes out. The bolting we make is in colour. Press Solid view for a steel model, or Cutaway to see the port passages and the plate pack in section.
Four long, fully threaded bolts that open and close the pack, turned in diagonal pairs so the pressure plate stays parallel to the frame plate.
The shorter bolts at the top, middle and bottom of each side. They go in once the pack is closed, to share the clamping load, and come out first when it is opened.
Heavy hex nuts at both ends of every bolt. Running the pressure-plate nuts along the thread sets the pack length, dimension A.
Machined thrust housings under the turning nuts of the tightening bolts, so the nuts turn under load with less torque.
A lock washer holds the frame-plate nut still while the other end is turned; plain washers sit under the pressure-plate nuts of the locking bolts.
Studs screwed into the frame plate round each port, holding the piping flanges on: eight 3/4 in. studs per port on a 9-1/2 in. bolt circle (ASME B16.5 Class 150, NPS 6), each with a heavy hex nut.
Bolt the carrying bar and guide bar to the frame plate and the support column.
The bolt the pressure plate's roller turns on as it rolls along the carrying bar.
Anchor the frame plate feet and the support column to the foundation.

The port flanges, their drilling and the stud diameter follow ASME B16.5, and the pipe and flange gaskets follow ASME B36.10 and B16.21. The frame, the ten M39 bolts (frames use from M24 to M48, and more bolts on longer, higher-pressure frames), the bearing boxes, lock washers, bars, column, feet and anchor bolts are typical proportions, and the bolt counts are typical. 182 plates are drawn, with a simplified gasket and a coarse herringbone; the plates and gaskets are not ours. The tightening dimension A and the bolt torque come from the exchanger's own drawing and manual. Your drawings govern. We manufacture to your drawings and specifications.
Drawn to ASME B16.5 (Class 150 NPS 6 port flanges, studs and drilling), ASME B36.10 (pipe) and ASME B16.21 (flange gaskets); the exchanger is the gasketed plate-and-frame type covered by API 662 Part 1, opened in the order given in published maintenance manuals.
