Aluminum Bronze C61400
The 7 percent aluminum bronze — 75 to 110 ksi as a fastener, weldable, and resistant to seawater, brine and dilute acids.
What C61400 Aluminum Bronze is.
C61400 is an alpha aluminum bronze with about 7 percent aluminum and 2.5 percent iron. The aluminum forms a tough, self-healing oxide film that gives the alloy corrosion resistance close to the nickel-aluminum grades, and the iron refines the grain for strength and fatigue resistance. Unlike the higher-aluminum bronzes it is single phase, so it is readily welded and cold worked.
ASTM F468 lists C61400 fasteners as Cu 614 (marking F468G). We machine C61400 studs, bolts and components from certified B150 rod.

What is C61400 aluminum bronze?
Aluminum bronzes replace tin with aluminum, which is both cheaper and more effective at strengthening copper. At 7 percent aluminum the alloy remains single-phase alpha, so C61400 keeps the ductility and weldability that the two-phase 10 percent grades lose, while the iron addition brings tensile strength to 75 ksi and above. The aluminum oxide surface film resists seawater, brackish water, dilute sulfuric and phosphoric acids and many alkalis.
Choosing among the aluminum bronzes
C61400 is the weldable, formable grade. C63000 nickel-aluminum bronze is stronger and harder and is the usual choice for heavily loaded fasteners and wear parts. C64200 aluminum-silicon bronze machines far better and is preferred for screw-machine work and valve stems. All three share the seawater resistance that makes the family a standard for marine and power-station hardware.
