What are collar bolts?
A collar bolt is a stud with a round collar machined in one piece with it, part way along its length. The collar seats against the joint and sets how far the stud goes in; the threads either side take the nuts or screw into a tapped hole. Many have a small square or hex on one end so a wrench can turn the stud.
