For pressure and high-temperature bolting, the nut matters as much as the stud. ASTM A194 matches each nut grade to its bolting: 2H with B7, 2HM with B7M for sour service, 7 with L7 for low temperature, and 8 or 8M with the stainless grades. Heavy hex nuts to ASME B18.2.2 are the standard on flanged joints; finished hex, jam and lock nuts cover general and machinery work.
We machine nuts from bar, so non-standard threads, oversize diameters and exotic alloys cost no more effort than a standard heavy hex. Tommy bar nuts, 12-point flange nuts and cap nuts are made to drawing.
