Bearing Bronze C93200 (SAE 660)
The workhorse bearing bronze — SAE 660 — for bushings, thrust washers and wear parts machined from continuous-cast bar.
What C93200 Bearing Bronze is.
C93200, universally known as SAE 660, is the general-purpose bearing bronze. Its 7 percent lead gives built-in lubricity and conformability, the 7 percent tin provides strength and wear resistance, and continuous casting to ASTM B505 delivers sound, fine-grained bar in solid and cored rounds ready for machining. It runs against hardened steel shafts at moderate loads and speeds and tolerates dirty or boundary lubrication.
We machine C93200 bushings, thrust washers, wear plates and custom components from certified B505 bar.

What is SAE 660 bearing bronze?
C93200 balances tin for strength against lead for lubricity. The lead is insoluble and sits as soft pockets in the bronze matrix; under load it smears across the bearing surface, and it lets the bearing embed grit and conform to shaft misalignment. Continuous casting produces bar with a uniform structure free of the porosity of sand castings, which is why B505 bar is the standard starting stock for machined bushings.
Limits
SAE 660 is a moderate-load bearing material, typically to about 4,000 psi bearing pressure with good lubrication. For heavier loads, shock or higher temperatures, aluminum bronze C95400 or nickel-aluminum bronze C95500 give two to three times the strength at the cost of conformability. The lead content excludes C93200 from potable-water and food-contact service.
