ASTM A354 Grade BC Bolts (125 ksi)
Alloy steel bolting between Grade 5 and Grade 8: 125 ksi tensile and 109 ksi yield in sizes to 2½ in., 115 ksi above — the anchor-bolt and large-stud grade that holds its strength in big diameters.
What A354 BC is.
ASTM A354 Grade BC is a quenched-and-tempered alloy steel bolt and stud specification at 125 ksi tensile to 2½ in. and 115 ksi over 2½ to 4 in. Because it is alloy steel it keeps its strength in large sections where A449 falls to 90 ksi, which makes it the usual choice for large anchor bolts, tie rods and studs that need more than Grade 5 but not the hardness of Grade 8.
We machine A354 BC bolts, studs and threaded rod from certified alloy bar, have them heat treated to the specification, and supply them plain or hot-dip galvanized with A563 DH nuts.

What is A354 Grade BC?
Grade BC is the lower of the two A354 grades: alloy steel tempered to 125 ksi and 26 to 36 HRC. It exists because alloy steel hardens through in large sections where carbon steel cannot, so a 3 in. BC stud carries 115 ksi against 90 ksi for an A449 stud of the same size. It is tougher than Grade BD, easier to galvanize without embrittlement concerns, and is the grade most large anchor bolts and tie rods are made to.
Testing, certification and marking
- Tensile, proof load and hardness tested per lot to ASTM F606
- Grade mark BC and manufacturer's identification on the head or one end
- Certificate of conformance or test report with heat number on request; EN 10204 3.1 available
- Coating thickness reported when plated or galvanized
