ASTM F468 Nonferrous Bolts, Hex Cap Screws, Socket Head Cap Screws and Studs
The nonferrous bolt specification: brass, bronze, copper-nickel, Monel, Inconel, Hastelloy, aluminium and titanium bolts, cap screws and studs, each alloy with its own strength, hardness and marking — the specification to call up when the joint cannot be steel.
What F468 nonferrous bolts is.
ASTM F468 covers bolts, hex cap screws, socket head cap screws and studs in the nonferrous alloys used where steel would corrode, spark, conduct magnetism or weigh too much. It lists copper alloys from ETP copper through naval brass, phosphor, aluminium and silicon bronze to copper-nickel; nickel alloys 400, 405, K-500, 625, 686, 59, 276 and 335; aluminium 2024, 6061 and 7075; and titanium grades 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 19 and 23. Each alloy carries a mechanical-property marking, F468A through F468HT, a hardness range and tensile and yield minimums.
We machine F468 fasteners from certified bar in every listed alloy, with the silicon bronze, naval brass, Monel and Inconel grades as regular work, and supply matching nuts to ASTM F467. Alloy data sheets for the common grades are linked below.

F468 nonferrous bolts fasteners we make.
Every item is manufactured to your drawing or standard in F468 nonferrous bolts, imperial or metric, with an EN 10204 3.1 certificate.
Choosing a nonferrous bolt
- Fresh and salt water, docks, pumps: silicon bronze 651 or 655, naval brass 464.
- Seawater under load, or where a stronger non-magnetic bolt is needed: Monel 400 for corrosion, K-500 for strength.
- Acids, chlorides and hot process streams: Inconel 625, 686 or Hastelloy C-276.
- Weight-critical or galvanically matched to aluminium structures: aluminium 6061-T6 or 2024-T4.
- Chloride and seawater service with high strength and low weight: titanium Grade 2 or Grade 5.
How F468 is read
Every alloy in F468 has a number, a UNS designation and a mechanical-property marking such as F468K for silicon bronze 651 or F468U for Monel 400. The marking is stamped on the head, so a bolt can be identified on the job without a certificate. Strength is given as a full-size tensile range, a yield minimum and a hardness range, and for several alloys it steps down above ¾ or ⅞ in. because cold-worked bar loses strength in larger diameters.
Testing, certification and marking
- Tensile, yield and hardness per lot to ASTM F606; hardness only on aluminium and titanium is for information
- Mechanical-property marking (F468A to F468HT) and manufacturer's identification on the head
- Certificate of compliance or test report with heat number; EN 10204 3.1 available
- Chemical analysis by the referee methods listed in the specification on request
