What are cold formed set screws?
Cold formed set screws are dimensionally the same fastener as a machined socket set screw — the difference is how they are made. Cold heading displaces material instead of cutting it, which work-hardens the part, leaves unbroken grain flow through the socket, and prices well at volume.
- Same B18.3 dimensions as machined set screws
- Work-hardened by forming — tough sockets
- Economical at production quantities
- Machined versions for exotics and small runs
Cold formed vs. machined
Choose cold formed for standard alloys at volume. Choose machined when the material is exotic (Monel, Inconel, duplex), the quantity is small, or the configuration is special — that is where our shop takes over.
Tips for purchasing
- Same point choices as machined set screws — name the point.
- Volume pricing favors cold formed; exotics favor machined — we quote both.
- Certs and traceability on request.
