How fast can stud bolts be made in Houston when a plant is down?

The short answer

It depends mostly on the material. On recent rush jobs we had B16 shoulder screws ready to ship 24 hours after the customer called, and shipped 128 A194 8C heavy hex nuts within three working days for a refinery that was down, running the shop around the clock to make the date.

What sets the date is the material, not the machining: whether bar in that grade and size is on hand, and whether the parts need outside heat treatment, coating or extra testing. Call our 24/7 line with the size, grade and quantity and we will give you a ship time on the call.

What decides the lead time

  • Material on hand. Bar bought already heat treated to the grade can go straight to the lathe. Exotic grades such as Inconel 718, super duplex or A453 660 may have to be sourced first.
  • Heat treatment. Done by outside heat treaters. Parts made from bar already in the right condition skip this step; parts that must be quenched and tempered or aged after machining add time.
  • Coating. Xylan (PTFE), zinc, galvanizing and other finishes are applied by outside coaters and platers in Houston. Plain parts ship sooner.
  • Testing and paperwork. Standard certification ships with the parts. Charpy, PMI, hardness surveys or third-party witness add time; tell us at the start so they run in parallel.
  • Quantity and size. A handful of 1" studs and a run of 4" studs with drilled heads are different jobs. Large diameters and long lengths take longer per piece.

What to send to save time

  • Size and thread (for example 1-1/8"-8 UN-2A x 9"), or a drawing or a photo of the old part with a tape measure
  • Grade, with the nut grade (B7 / 2H, B16 / 7, L7 / 7…) and any sour-service or hardness limit
  • Quantity, and whether you need complete sets with nuts and washers
  • Coating, if any, and the certificates and tests your inspector needs
  • Where it has to be delivered and the time it is needed on site

How it ships

Across the Gulf Coast our own hot-shot delivers around the clock, straight to the gate or the unit. Further afield we ship by ground, next-day air or a dedicated truck, and quote the fastest option on the call. See service areas for distances from the shop.

Questions

Also asked.

Is your phone really answered 24/7?

Yes. The hot-shot line is answered around the clock, so you can start an emergency job at any hour.

Can you make a part from a sample with no drawing?

Yes. Send a photo with a tape measure, or the old part itself; we measure it, confirm the thread and grade with you, and make it to match.

Do rush parts come with certificates?

Yes. Every order ships with material certification and traceability to the heat; rush jobs follow the same quality system as any other order.

What if the grade you need isn't in stock?

We will tell you on the call where the material is coming from and how long it adds, and suggest an equivalent grade only if your engineer approves it.
